Kể từ ngày 01 tháng 07 năm 2017, Bộ Di Trú Úc chính thức giảm độ tuổi tối đa được gửi thư mời nộp đơn xin visa định cư diện tay nghề độc lập – visa 189 từ 49 tuổi trước đó xuống 45 tuổi.
Diện visa tay nghề độc lập 189 là diện visa định cư thường trú dành cho người có chuyên môn thuộc ngành nghề trong danh sách ưu tiên định cư 1 của Úc, có tổng số điểm định cư từ 60 điểm trở lên. Diện này không được bảo lãnh của bang, của gia đình hay của doanh nghiệp.
Hiện vẫn chưa có thông tin về việc thay đổi độ tuổi tối đa đối với các loại visa định cư tay nghề 190, 489.
